Many economists have been protesting for months against the austerity policies imposed throughout Europe and further strengthened in the European fiscal Treaty. For example, Nobel Price Paul Krugman, recently stated it would be the "Europe's Economic Suicide".

Greece is at a critical juncture on its path for fiscal consolidation and economic recovery. The burden on the Greek people to meet the austerity criteria has already been unprecedented in recent memory.

The European Commission's proposal for a European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion is a part of the Europe 2020 strategy on economic growth. According to the EP report (Daerden), 20% of the EU population live in poverty, including 20 million children.

MEP Sampo Terho (Perussuomalaiset, EFD Group) comments the institutional perspectives today called by EU leaders : "EU seems to be in a constant never ending crisis and many people seem to be using this crisis as an excuse to advance the development to a federal State" he said, and "I'm quite sure Finnish people would not accept that". Mr Terho asks now for "an open debate on federal development", regretting that no people in Europe can be consulted on this important step. "The Federal State comes just little by little" and it will be "some day a reality" in the back of the European people. On the contrary, the last elections shows that people, "are looking for a change in Euro politics"
