"Austerity policy is not the solution to the crisis" says Marta Andreasen

Marta Andreasen - "Stricter budgetary discipline with automatic sanctions will not change anything"

Marta Andreasen -

The seventeen eurozone states, plus several other EU states but no Britain, agreed to a new deal aimed at saving Europe's common currency. New EU treaties require unanimous ratification by member states (most states holding parliamentary votes and some like Ireland requiring referendums). However, the new deal was termed as an "intergovernmental accord", suggesting it does not fall under the democratic rules for treaties concluded between sovereign States. Our MEP Marta Andreasen, of the UK Independence Party, explains why UK has now been relegated to the “second division” in Europe, and that, according to her, it is now time to “withdraw” completely.

Marta Andreasen calls to limit the powers of credit ratings agencies

Nine eurozone nations had their credit rating downgraded by ratings agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) last week, causing the euro to fall to its lowest level against the dollar since 2010. France and Austria lost their flawless AAA ratings and are now rated AA+, as well as the eurozone's bailout fund (EFSF).

"No budgetary federalism without referenda !"

By comparison with US federal State, a budgetary federalism would require a massive financial transfer from the Member State to the EU, from 1 to 15% of European GDP.
