On April 25, Fiorello Provera from the European Parliament's EFD group and Vice Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee condemned the sentencing to death of former Palestinian intelligence official Muhammad Abu Shahala on the grounds of selling a house in the West Bank town of Hebron to Jewish residents.

Euro-waste: more than 11 million euros spent in 2 years for the pre-selection of the staff of the EU Institutions.

A written question tabled by Mr Fontana MEP (Lega Nord, EFD Group) has revealed that over the past two and a half years, the EU has spent over 11 million euros just to implement the procedures for pre-selection of its staff.

A draft resolution co-signed by several Groups in the EP including the EFD Group and adopted by the Committee on the Environment and Public Health (ENVI) enumerates suggestions after PIP scandal. MEPs call for a marketing authorisation request for dangerous medical devices, use of mandatory unannounced inspections, enhanced controls of notified bodies and additional sample testing on products already on the market.

The issue of planting rights was discussed at a special symposium at the European Parliament, under the direction of Madame Astrid Lulling MEP. Her colleague MEP Giancarlo Scotta became a spokesman for the vineyards, to oppose the projects of liberalization decided by the Commission.

In Strasbourg MEPs approved the annual Human Rights Report for 2010. The European Parliament began adopting this annual report and resolution on human rights since 1983. In his speech in plenary, MEP Fiorello Provera expressed his worries for freedom of faith, in particular, because of numerous cases of discrimination and persecution of Christians in the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, in Nigeria recently, in South-East Asia, China, India, Pakistan and North Korea.
