MRI : "Some individuals must have medical staff while the scan is in progress" reminds Derek Clark

Close to the medical community in UK, Derek Clark expresses its concerns regarding the implementation of a Directive of 2004 on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from electromagnetic fields. Indeed, the exposure limit values limit to a disproportionate extent the use and development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis and treatment of several diseases.

Industrial sectors also expressed their concerns about the impact of the Directive on their activities. UKIP Mep explains that such requirements "forbid any medical practitioner or operative to stay in the room where the MRI scanning is taking place while the scan is in progress. That's all very well but there are some individuals who must have medical staff with them while this is happening : young children, the mentally handicapped and other people must have medical practitioner. But with the directive that would be forbidden" he said. The aim of a legislative proposal tabled last June is to amend the Directive 2004/40/EC.
